After You Pass in Rochester

Receive your pass letter by mail

Results arrive in approximately 10 days. The letter states pass or fail only. No numerical score is provided.

Submit your notary application

Apply online through NY Business Express and pay the $60 application fee.

Take the oath of office

Before you submit, swear the Oath of Office (form DOS-2201) before a notary or other authorized official and upload it with your application. The Monroe County Clerk must have a staff notary available free of charge (County Law §534).

Receive your commission

The Secretary of State issues your commission and sends your oath and signature to the Monroe County Clerk; you do not file it yourself. Your commission covers all of New York State.

Get your notary stamp and journal

Purchase a notary stamp/seal and start your notary journal. You are now authorized to perform notarizations in New York State.
